Steve Menees

Steve grew up in the St. Louis, MO area and he recalls that he got his first guitar when he was 12 years old. Steve says that he bugged his dad so much to get him a guitar that he he finally took him to the local Sears and Roebuck store and bought him an electric guitar and an amplifier. He loved playing and worked hard at it. The first song he learned to play was Gloria by Van Morrison. Some of Steve’s early influences were English bands such as The Beatles.

When Steve turned 18, Vietnam was hot. He enlisted in the United State Air Force the summer he got out of high school in 1969. On August 11th of that year, Steve was sent to San Antonio, TX for training, just 4 days before Woodstock. He continued his training in the states and then was sent on to Thailand to serve in the Vietnam War. Music from the Vietnam Era is a strong influence in his repertoire. Steve served in the US Airforce for 21 years and traveled extensively.

Throughout the years, music has always been an important part of Steve’s life. You could always find him with an acoustic guitar around him, whether it was his or someone else’s. Steve’s favorite artists are Jethro Tull, The Doobie Brothers, The Moody Blues, Cat Stevens, The Byrds, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Neil Young, The Who, Pete Townshend, Ian Anderson, and John Lennon.

Steve describes the music he plays as 60’s folk rock – acoustic. He is working on a few original songs with the band. Steve has a huge appreciation for all the people that come out to hear them play and is grateful for being able to do what they do as entertainers.
